本文以英语中做动词补语的FOR TO结构为研究对象,在认知语言学视阙下,基于其原有的语义、句法和语用的文献梳理,从FOR TO结构的句法属性和语义属性,FOR TO结构与不定式TO结构在认知语义上的区别,以及FOR TO结构的适用语境等维度进行了再解读,认为原有文献对FOR TO结构的分析在人的心智经历和一般认知规律研究上存在不足,应该更多的从语言表达者本身的认知视角出发来理解FOR TO结构独特的句法和语义属性。本文意在抛砖引玉,探索不同语言表达结构与说话者不同意义识解之间的内在逻辑联系,以便更好地服务于外语教学。
With Cognitive Linguistics as its theoretical foundation, the paper probes into the issue of FOR TO complement constructions used mainly as verbal complementation. Based on literature review of FOR TO complement constructions, the paper reinterprets FOR TO complement constructions from the dimensions of its syntactical features and cognitive semantics, its differences from Infinitive To constructions, and the contexts in which FOR TO constructions are used within the framework of Cognitive Linguistics. The paper concludes that the past literature has not yet conducted their studies in the respect of the mental experience and cognitive rules of speakers; therefore, more emphasis should be laid on the cognitive perspective of speakers while construing the unique syntactic and semantic features of FOR TO complement constructions. With the final aim of better serving foreign language teaching, the paper intends to serve in some way as the beginning of further exploration on the internal logical relationship between various kinds of linguistic expressions and their corresponding meaning construal.
