In spite of the fact that translator’s subjectivity has been justified and translators no longer take the backseat in translation, yet the monosubjectivity-based study has sometimes gone too far, thus blurring the boundaries between translator’s subjectivity and translator-centeredness. This paper aims at taking a new look at this issue from the perspective of intersubjectivity. The basic notions of Hans-Georg Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics——model of conversation, prejudice and fusion of horizons——are applied to reconsider and reinterpret translator’s subjectivity. It is argued that the translator’s subjectivity could only be manifested through equal participation and respect for differences in the endless fusion of horizons.
